This is what we absolutely
have to understand:
who is doing the loving--
myself or the other?
If I myself love,
then I have a certain purity of heart.
But if the love is dependent
on this or that person or situation,
then I'm passing judgement
and dividing people into those
I think lovable and those I don't.
We're all looking for an ideal world,
but it can exist only iin our own heart,
and for this we have to develop
our heart's capacity so that we learn to
love independently. - Pema Chodron
